The story points out that the two cops knew they were in serious crap because they tried to get the guy not to say anything.
One cop's body cam mysteriously "quit working" as they were clubbing him in the leg. There should be a federal law that says if a body cam goes off in the middle of an interaction with a person, you get six months off without pay or something.

I’m going to take some flack for this, but the story quoting “ride the lightning” as being a term for the electric chair makes no sense and makes me wonder about the ability of the lawyer. It’s pretty clear that the cop is talking about using a taser.

It’s clear in the context he means the taser but if you’re really trying to shock the senses, you play dumb and talk about the original meaning of Ride the Lightning. Which in fairness, one could argue the guy hearing that could think the cop is threatening to have him executed because he can’t think of the added context the term can now carry. Regardless, that cop needs to be thrown off the force and relocated to fry cook at McDonalds after this. Sorry cowboy, there’s no need for monologuing when trying to take someone into custody let alone a really dumb turn of phrase that makes you look really bad even though you weren’t threatening to execute the guy.

It’s almost like giving dumbass loudmouth assholes a head start into this profession because they served in the military is an awful idea.
