Thoughts and Prayers: The Religion Thread

It comes from their own empathy and their understanding of how they want to be treated. It comes from their families. It comes from many places. Religion is one of them, but religion creates horror as well. I'm not just talking about ancient history. The Catholic Church hasn't come close to properly dealing with not only priests abusing children, the church itself covering for them. Whether you believe the scripture is the word of G-d or not, it is still used by men for their own gratification and power.

Now please present us with the post in which I referred to any deity's teachings as a fairy tale. Please, present us with the post in which I wrote or implied that those teaching shouldn't be respected, learned or taught. You can't because I have not and would not say such things. I have issues with organized religion. I have issues with horrible people doing horrible things in the name of G-d. I have issues with horrible people hiding behind the Bible or other religious texts to excuse abuse and corruption. I do not have a problem with faith or the teaching of it. Maybe you confused me with someone else. Maybe you are lying. Either way, I expect you to acknowledge your error.

I had no idea, either. Interesting to speculate who's face might be on a million dollar bill.

She's a loon but credit where it's due ... she worded her breathy question to the T:

It was deleted, either by you, or maybe it was hey abbott. (You two are basically interchangeable to me).

And you can fuck off with your "expectations." And quit hijacking every damn discussion anybody tries to have on this thread.

That fits in with your usual level of ignorance. My posts are nothing like his, but you will just thoughtlessly lump anybody who dares question the Word together.

I'm going to comment on any damn discussion I want on this thread. I should have known better than to expect you to acknowledge your error. You lack the integrity to do so. You accused me of something I did not do and would never do. I would never disrespect people's faith in that way. I disagree with much of it, but disagreeing is not disrespecting. If I made such comments, I would have left them. I don't delete controversial posts. You may not like how I've characterized you in posts on this board, but I've never lied about you the way you just lied about me.

You and Alma claim that we need religion for people to be good. We don't. Religion is responsible for a lot of good in our world, but it is also responsible for a lot of evil. I again refer to the Catholic Church enabling pedophiles for decades. I point to many religions disrespecting women. There are other examples, but those two are plenty. You keep finding yourself on the wrong side of such things.

Try Hitchens against Lord Rabbi Jonathan Sacks instead of Rabbi Boteach.

    Boteach was laughable.

Disrespecting and lying are the same thing? Perhaps too much time with Latin has messed up your ability to understand English. Do us a favor and slink back to the cowardly trolls. Your buddy fixed it so you won't have to deal with me there. By the way, pass along a message for me. It is a simple enough one even for you to share it properly.

    I win.
