I think the first season is also doing a lot of set building that will be used in future seasons.

This is the Second Age of Middle Earth for the series, so pre Hobbit-LotR times.

Bret of Easttown (HBO Kate Winslet) was interesting.

I love Charles Grodin and Carson plays along with him perfectly.

    Mare hit the shot.

I’m actually really excited about this show after watching the first episode. I mean, that’s Kate fucking Winslet chasing down druggies in shitburg Pennsylvania.

The show is called Mare of Easttown. Definitely intrigued by the pilot.

Finished season 2 of The Knick last night.

Really, that's the only way it could have ended for Thackery, isn't it? Coked up and ripping his own guts out while a theater of doctors looked on.

I understand there will be a season 3 now that HBO Max is involved. There were some definite loose ends to clean up and stories to tell, and I think Soderbergh's original vision was for a six-season show. Will look forward to seeing what's next.

Given what passes for network comedy these days - that pilot must have really been terrible - surprisingly so given the talent involved. The creators of Modern Family, directed by James Burrows and starring Alec Baldwin and Kelsey Grammar?

Alec Baldwin/Kelsey Grammer Sitcom Scrapped at ABC, Despite Series Order

And with their profiles - really would have thought a better plot would be a show starring them as cohabitants of a DC condo while on opposite sides of the aisle in Congress would have been kind of fun. Particularly if the one house rule is no politics at home.

I refuse to consume anything Grammar works in.

That all sounds hacky as fuck, and I'm shocked it wasn't a CBS show. I also imagine that Baldwin and Grammar probably had huge salaries, if it went forward, and Burrows doesn't work cheap either.

That's the deal - I figure all involved pocketed some serious cash considering it was an "order."

Network comedy is so dead. NBC's longest running comedy in the fall (not including Brooklyn 99 in its final season) will be three shows that debuted in the last four months (Mr. Mayor) and perhaps Kenan and Young Rock.

    CBS's will be Young Sheldon

Fox has the Simpsons, but no live-action comedies

    ABC has Blackish.

The Goldbergs has one season on Blackish, but I feel like it's starting to wind down. Also, the loss of George Segel is deeply felt. There's also Mom on CBS, which has been going longer than Young Sheldon.

Of scripted network shows I watch, a lot of them have had their finales in the last few years, leaving me down to: Goldbergs, Mom, The Good Doctor, This is Us, Zoey's Extraordinary Playlist, Young Sheldon. I just don't see a lot worth watching out there.

In "definitely worth watching", is it July 23 yet?

(do we officially need a separate Ted Lasso thread yet?)

And to play Debbie Downer... Zoey's is on the verge of being cancelled, Mom has been cancelled, and Goldbergs is still up in the air, even though it's late April.

Young Sheldon got picked up through 2023-24, though, so you got that going for you. ;)
