1984-5 Doc was just insane. Squandered.

Better over an extended period of time than Jerry Koosman?

Yes. Certainly way better best seasons and Koos had a lot of mediocre years.

Yeah, on retrospect (checking his stats) he did. But it also looks like he suffered the same fate as deGrom late in his Mets' career, pitched decently but lost a lot of games.

Not only with the coke, but also with Mel Stottlemyre messing around with his pitching mechanics so he could hold runners on better and getting him to throw change-ups when he didn’t need to.

Frustrated mets fan here. One of the infuriating things from that time period was hear mets announcers saying the team wanted him to strike out fewer batters, to tone down his “stuff” to save his pitching arm. The precursor to the modern pitch count nonsense.
And there’s no comparison between Degrom and koosman. Koosman was a very good pitcher. Degrom is getting closer and closer to a sure hall of famer. I think he’s already made a pretty good case, the only thing missing is the length of career.

I believe the stats going around is that deGrom has more RBIs (2) this season than earned runs allowed (1) thru 29 innings.

Did someone point out that the Mets have a losing record over DeGrom's past, what, four years?

DeG only has 70 career wins. He's far from the HoF.

The bar for short-career HoFers is Koufax. He's not Koufax.

No one is saying he's Koufax. I am just puzzled you mentioning wins in 2021. Like it matters. Dude has a career 2.55 ERA. He's a two-time Cy Young winner, and will most likely win more in his career. He's on pace to make the HOF. He just needs to stay healthy.

Don't have time to look it up, but he's had terrible run support in his career.

So, in all seriousness, what gets him in?

A Rookie of the Year? Two Cy Youngs? One year of leading the NL in ERA? At this point in his career, he's Dean Chance, without the drama. And he still needs two more full years to be eligible.
