This can also go with the NFL news, but Mongo McMichael announced today that he has ALS (Lou Gehrig’s Disease), and he doesn’t look very good.

He wasn’t that great in ring, but I thought he was decent on promos. Sad news.

I'm liking this "WWE Most Wanted Treasures" show on A&E. Gotta WWE/Pawn Stars kinda vibe.

Holy shit. Just saw this teased on Facebook that WGN sports guy Jarrett Payton will have a piece on McMichael on Sunday night, and he posted pictures with him. McMichael is unrecognizable from his football and wrestling days. He looks like he weighs about 150 pounds.

All the Tribune photos of Mongo were crushing.

Speaking of the '85 Bears and of Walter Payton, his cancer revelation was my first big taste of breaking sports news.

That day in February 1999, a bunch of us at my high school got the opportunity to job shadow in different departments at CNN Center. I picked CNN/SI, and we were talking to one of the anchors (maybe Van Earl Wright?) at his desk when they were going to go live to Walter's press conference where he announced his diagnosis. They shuttled us kids into the control room, and we watched as they went live.

Month or so later, Braves had a gathering for high school journalists at Turner Field before an exhibition game at the end of spring training, and they held mock news conferences with some of the players. I had the gall as some 17-year-old putz to ask Walt Weiss on if he still beared any ill will against White Water, the Atlanta water park where his kid got e.Coli and nearly died. I could tell he was starting daggers into me, and I instantly regretted it.

My question for Gerald Williams was much less hard-hitting: what was it like to be part of the SNL sketch where they brought in a bunch of mid-level MLB players.

Good stuff with the WWE 24 doc on Miz. Still amazed to see he's gone from the Diva Search to being a first-ballot Hall of Famer.

The A&E doc on Piper is on. Gene LeBell is a fucking hoot.

Got a little dusty in the room seeing the video at WrestleMania of Rousey meeting Piper’s widow. Really good doc.

I saw this on the guide and was prepared to bypass it until a wrestling freak I know told me it was worth a watch. I would never have thought there was a market for wrestling memorabilia.

I know it's for the show, but it does make me wonder if the WWE is finally going to build a physical wrestling hall of fame somewhere. Just pulling out a fraction of the stuff they have in that warehouse for display would make for some incredible exhibits.

Watched a bit of the Undertaker/Kane episode last night and it was fun. Seeing Kane pull $10,000 worth of memorabilia out of a plastic storage tub in his attic, and the Undertaker a $50,000 ring outfit from his storage unit in Texas, as if it were nothing, was mind-boggling.
Also loved the Undertaker making the point about Kane's old boots, and how you can tell how over a wrestler is by how worn either the toe or the heel is. He said if the toe is worn it means that the wrestler is scuffing it on the mat a lot while pinning someone, and if the heel is worn it means the guy is getting pinned. I'd never heard that before. Kane's toe was scuffed to hell and the heel was almost pristine.

Same here, I had never heard that but hearing Taker explain it made perfect sense. I'd never wondered what happened to old ring attire, boots whatever. Agree that a physical hall would be really cool.

I think they've been trying since like 2010. Every couple of years, you'll hear reports about them looking at land in Florida, but then at a certain point things seem to cool down.
