    Forever? That’s ridiculous.

Because apparently he’s Sam Darnold and there haven’t been any good QB’s come out of Ohio State.

I agree but I think that he’s sooo good he’s been deluded into thinking that all he needs is someone to execute what HE calls and he doesn’t need/want the extra dimension that others provide when needed.

I got the impression that too many people were comparing him to Haskins, which doesn't really hold up at all.

Ohio State QB Justin Fields managing epilepsy as he heads into 2021 NFL Draft

I also wonder if Fields is dropping in part because it became public that he has epilepsy. I did not realize until I read the story below that Alan Faneca also has epilepsy, which he managed without incident throughout his Hall of Fame career. Faneca spoke out in support of Fields, though they haven't met.

Elway repeatedly tried to draft himself, was the problem.

Kyle Trask was really, really good the last two years. Really good. I suspect he'll be a decent NFL QB.

I'm not sure what that even means. Nobody with a sane mind thought Paxton Lynch or Brock Osweiler were the next John Elways.

Every year, there are repeated failures in using top draft picks to select qbs. This year is no different. If anyone sees something extraordinary in Zach Wilson, I will call them a liar to their face.

A year ago at this time, Joel Klatt, who gets paid good money to analyze the draft, said that Justin Herbert wasn't worth a first round pick.

This is an exercise in flinging poo against a wall and seeing what sticks. I laugh at anyone who thinks they can judge qb draft prospects. John Elway can't.

If Sam Bradford had gone in the 2009 draft instead of staying at Oklahoma the Lions would have selected him over Matthew Stafford
    THAT’s why they’re the Lions

All snark aside, I will gladly come on here in a year or two, or three, and admit I was wrong about Fields. But living in Ohio, I get the joy of watching the Buckeyes and their highlights on a loop and I see the same things over and over: receivers 10 yards behind the DBs and Fields throwing the ball somewhere near them. He was never squeezing throws into windows. Never had to. Doesn't mean he can't, but I haven't seen it. And since that's been the outcome of of every Ohio State quarterback, literally ever, I would be very leery of drafting this one. Eventually someone will break that string and it damn well might be Fields, but until that happens ... There is a reason, after all, he wound up at Ohio State: He couldn't beat out Jake Fromm.

At the end of the season, Fields appeared to be the No. 2 QB prospect and now he's possibly No. 5. How does that happen? Maybe because guys paid to evaluate him are putting him under quite a microscope and seeing a lot of things that make him less desirable to them? Maybe at his two pro days he didn't look quite as good as they needed him to look. Fields played against four teams with good defenses last year and he stunk against three of them. Gonna guess those game tapes have been fairly well dissected.

All that said, I won't be surprised if he is taken by the Niners.

I think what Alma meant is that Elway seemed obsessed with taking players like him - Meaning, *tall* QBs with strong arms. Strapping young lads who could really sell some blue jeans.

I think the erason that people say that Elway was trying to draft himself was because of his preference for tall quarterbacks. Lynch was 6'6" and Ostweiler was 6'7". Elway signed Joe Flacco, who was 6'6" and also drafted Drew Lock, who is 6'4".

Everyone realized none of those guys were Elway. But Elway emphasized height because he wanted to run basically the Broncos Super Bowl offense of the 90's. The QB would play under center, the team would establish their zone run scheme and that would set up play action. Elway would talk about how being a tall quarterback was a big advantage on play action passes.
