And probably the biggest hurdle for Jackson to overcome... 1-3 playoffs, 3/5 TD/INT and 68.3 rating (62.7 div round).

And if I'm Baltimore, I keep him for as long as I can, but I would not pay him top-flight QB money unless I could get out of it after 2-3 years.

Quarterback X in his first four years in the league went 0-3 in the playoffs, with 1 TD, 2 INT's and completed 48 percent of his postseason passes. Did you lowball him on his second contract? Congratulations, you just let Peyton Manning walk out the door.

Yes, but everyone understands the Colts were trash can juice when Peyton got there (and for a couple of seasons after that.) The Ravens were not rebuilding from zero.

Aside from five decades of evidence, what do you have to back that up?

Considering the team, I’m not shocked.

The financial landscape has changed so much since then, that is not a valid argument at all. The Ravens have to pick up his fifth-year option, which will probably happen soon, then will have two seasons to see if he's worth the big money, if they want to take that long. Manning's first contract was worth nearly $50 million. They had too much invested in him at that point to just let him go. Jackson's first deal was worth less than $10 million. It's a lot easier to set someone free when you haven't put much into them.

Rodgers doesn't want to return to Green Bay:

My point had nothing to do with the money. It's that judging a QB solely by three postseasons in four years is not a useful measuring stick.

And of course the Bay are media is going apeshit over "trade Garoppolo and the pick to the Packers".

It has everything to do with the money. If someone put up Manning's numbers in today's climate, he'd be jettisoned after two years. Back then you got 5 or 6 because the financial investment was so great. Who knows how many potentially great players never see their potential because of finances.
