Evening online manager (news and sports)/Lincoln Journal Star

The Lincoln Journal Star is looking for a journalist to add firepower to our digital team and to coordinate and execute coverage of key events in print and at JournalStar.com.

We want an innovator with interest in news, sports and features who will work as part of a newsroom-wide team to engage our loyal audience and bring in new readers.

Primary duties:

• Work with news and sports editors to manage content for some of our biggest events – Signing Day and Elections – and contribute ideas to beef up content from events with the potential to grow our audience, including high school football and the Lincoln Marathon.
• Work with online editor to manage content, carry out social media strategies, create supporting multimedia and aggregate stories with significant local interest.
• Lead the charge on evening breaking news events.
• Work with night editor to assist in editing stories, coordinating layouts with Lee Design Center and proofing pages.

The evening online manager will generally work Sunday through Thursday with adjustments during the football season to provide additional digital support for live game interaction and digital and print content curation.

Previous experience is preferred, but recent grads who can demonstrate a high level of ability and have successfully completed internships are encouraged to apply.

No offense to anyone in Lincoln, especially Todd, but no 22-year-old should be anywhere near a position that’s the modern day equivalent of a slot.

 

In 15 years, 22-year-olds will be the grizzled veterans of the American newsroom. The average age will be the same as it was in "Newsies."

 

In 15 years, the American newsroom probably won't exist. (At least not as us old folks know it.)

 

Lincoln is a GREAT city. Very underrated.
