Rolling Stone's Top 100 sitcoms of all-time

Glad to see Party Down get some recognition. One of my all-time faves.

 

How many episodes of these 100 shows did they watch before compiling the list?

 

And The League didn't make the list!?!

 

Seems like their definition of "best" doesn't mean influential. By that measure I think Friends is about fairly ranked.

I liked Schitt's, but I don't get the hype.

 

That was my immediate thought. Like, they created the list solely for the online buzz of starting out with something that intentionally stupid.

 

I just learned that reading this post. The way my mother talked about it, I swear it ran for a decade.

 

I saw one of those Mental Floss articles about Jackie Gleason and it made a mention of Honeymooners being on for just one season. I figured it was a typo. LOL So I looked it up and was surprised.

I supposed if it went on for too long, they wouldn't be Honeymooners anymore. Season 2 would have been "Newlyweds" ... Season 3 "Ball & Chain" ... Season 4 "Amicable Separation" ... (wait, this was the 50s ... that didn't happen!)

 

Maybe, but that gets really, really tricky.

They've got "All in the Family" top 5. Fair enough -- It was a groundbreaking, important, influential show. Have you tried to watch an episode lately? It gets credit for tackling issues like rape in a sitcom format; people tend to leave off that the whole premise of the episode was that it was hilarious that a guy would ever want to rape someone old and ugly like Edith. It's damn near unwatchable.

 

Barney Miller should have been on the list, just my opinion.

The list is shlock without Married with Children.
