Philip Seymour Hoffman (may he RIP) was forever the brainy, witty guy.

The character was known only by a codename, Rawhide. I can't remember if he actually wore cowboy gear. Jeff Goldblum's character is dressed like a cowboy during the end credits, during which Rawhide inexplicably shows up even though they killed off the character in the movie.

This post sent me to IMDB. That led to the discovery that they shot flashback scenes with Jamie Lee Curtis as Buckaroo Banzai's mother, but they were all deleted. Of course, I had to find that as well.

his outfit wasnt as outlandish as Goldblum’s, but he wore a cowboy hat in several scenes, which of figured was a nod to the name?

I honestly don't remember. I haven't watched that one hour, 43-minutes of weird in a long time.

I watched that and Highlander back-to-back. I wish I could like Buckaroo Banzai...just can’t do it.

I'm sure if I watched it now, I wouldn't like it, either. At the time, I was entertained. In my defense, I was 12 when that movie came out.

Funny People (Sandler) was a good movie. Eons better than Uncut Gems.

Michael Cera as a socially awkward teenage type ... Arrested Development, Superbad, Scott Pilgrim, Juno, Crystal Fairy & The Magical Cactus, the list goes on.

Clint Howard - typecast as a guy that needs to be in every movie...
Neal McDonough - always comes into a show/movie as a friend, ends up being a bad guy

Sam Rockwell excels at playing characters who seem to think they're just visiting this planet. His best work so far can be found in Confessions of a Dangerous Mind, Seven Psychopaths, and playing against type in Moon.

Don't forget his turn as Zaphod Beeblebrox in Hitchhiker's Guide.
