Do you mean they *never* used Oakland until moving across the Bay?

Look, I'm a Pujols St. Louis era fan, but why?

Yep. They played all over the Bay area when they moved out from Philly, but mostly at the Cow Palace. Even when Oakland became home base in the early 70s, they still scheduled a few games in San Diego (after the Rockets left) and Salt Lake City, this, Golden State.

Why would any NL team sign him? To be a pinch-hitter? He balked at the concept of being a part-time player for the Angels. Maybe the days of inactivity and the opportunity to sign with a contender changed his mind.
Prediction: He hits at least one dramatic HR in his first week as a Dodger. Beyond that? Highly uncertain.

If he had retired after his time in St. Louis, he's a first-ballot HOF. But he hasn't been an everyday player for at least two years, maybe three or four. Like most athletes, especially ones who were once were great, he'll have to be shoved into retirement.

I'm pretty puzzled by the Pujols signing myself. I understand why Pujols would do the deal, but why do it from the Dodgers perspective? Their farm system is pretty loaded; I would like there was a first baseman in Oklahoma City they could call up to serve the same role as Pujols would.

Angels pay Pujols hundreds of millions for his success with the Cardinals he doesn't come anywhere close to duplicating.
Angels to pay Pujols millions to play for the Dodgers.
My my, that deal sure worked out well.
And I'm supposed to be all shits and giggles because signing with the Dodgers "lets him end his career on a happier note?" The dude made $400 million or thereabouts. He'd have been fine even had nobody wasted their money by signing him.

He’s still a first ballot hall of famer.

Still a first ballot hall of famer. Not his fault the Angels were dumb enough to give him that contract.

And look what his leaving has done to Mike Trout, he has the sads now.

The Dodgers have pretty much called up every bat on their 40 man. Pujols can fill the role of Edwin Rios, who just went out for the year. But he’ll still just pinch hit and occasionally play 1B.
