And by the way, it was a whole lot easier to eat lunch there before Broadway became a thing at 10 a.m. on a random Monday.

We must be thinking of two different places. Yep. Just looked it up. Jack Cawthon's on Charlotte is supposed to be pretty good. I stay away from the Downtown area if I can help it. I miss Red, Hot, and Blue on Elliston.

Edited to add: Nashville is getting as bad as Atlanta when it comes to getting from Point A to Point B. It used to take me an hour at most to get from Rivergate to Bellevue. The last time I tried it, my drive time clocked in at over three hours on a Thursday evening.

I’ve got to figure out my new go-to place for Preds games. It was always Demo’s for me, even after the quality had taken a hit, but that’s closed now. Tried Acme Feed & Seed and it was meh at best, particularly for the prices involved. Then again you can’t even lick an ice cube in the district for less than $10 now.

I have to be at the corner of 7th and Broadway 3-4 times a year. It used to be run in, walk to lunch at Jack's, then run out and head home. It's becoming more difficult because of the crowds. My saving grace is that my "run in" is usually before 8 a.m., so the crowds are small. By 10 a.m., the lunch and afternoon run out are a nightmare.

Demo's is closed? Wow. Not sure what's left Downtown that isn't a tourist trap. Rotier's is closed, too. Fattoush on Charlotte is fab. Baja Burrito is probably too far away, but so good if you like Cali-Mex and street-style Mexican. Across the river in East Nasty, Bolton's is still open. Rosepepper Cantina has good days and bad days. There are some trendy, hipsterish places in East as well. If you're just looking for basic good and fresh fuel, my favorite apres-church place was the hot bar at Turnip Truck.

In Key West, there's a group of two or three nice seafood restaurants in the marina under the umbrella of A&B Lobster House. Around 3 p.m. each day their boats come in with the day's catch for that night's dinner service. They have a little platform in front of the restaurant, right on the dock, where you can watch them clean and gut the fish (I think it's usually dolphin -- the fish, not the mammal) and turn them into fillets. They throw the scraps to the groupers in the marina, which is a show unto itself. It's a strangely relaxing way to spend 30 minutes out of the afternoon sun with a cool drink in hand.

My food was decent at Acme Feed and Seed but I did find a sealed copy of Cheap Trick's "Special One" on vinyl there, so I was quite happy.

Ditto the Demo’s surprise. I remain sad that Rotier’s went tits up. I have cautious hopes for the reopened Candyland...but please tell me Brown’s Diner is still a dingy thing?

Food critiquing is a lost art replaced by worthless five-star reviews of pre-packaged food and one-star reviews because someone didn’t get an extra ranch or didn’t get that fourth Diet Coke refill.
