In a statement, University-6 calls itself a victim of Gaudio's extortion plot, but it conveniently declines to say whether the allegations he planned to raise about NCAA violations have any merit.
Let us remember that seven weeks after they were punished for having strippers in a dorm as a recruiting enticement, they dispensed money in a brown paper bag to a prospect's father. That cash case is still pending. And if Dino's claim is accurate, the Cards have again violated NCAA rules while on probation and/or investigation.
    Shut them down.

Now I'm wondering if Ron Wellman knew something more in Winston-Salem when he fired Dino Gaudio.

From the U of L statement:

“The allegations of violations are the impermissible production of recruiting videos for prospective student-athletes and the impermissible use of graduate managers in practices and workouts.”

If he truly tried to extort them for the NCAA equivalent of jaywalking, he’s either a fool or up to his neck in debt from people who don’t just send a garnishment notice in the mail.

His attorney put out a statement effectively admitting to the charge.

Former Louisville coach Dino Gaudio federally charged with extortion

He said Gaudio couldn’t “walk back” his remarks because they were tape recorded, said Bulter, a former prosecutor who wouldn’t name who made the recording.

Is It Time to Hit Reset on Louisville Men's Basketball?

The ACC should never have allowed Louisville in. Keep in mind that, prior to their inclusion in the conference, Bobby Petrino had already shown his rear end at the school once and the men's basketball program had an extortion case already on the books under Rick Pitino. Take a bow, John Swofford ... even in retirement.

It’s not even an academic fit, which makes the decision even more out of character. West Virginia was poo-pooed for that reason.

If your school is in a scholarship-granting Division I conference, any league-wide claims on academic or ethical purity are just PR fairy tales.

It’s cute that my old boss at the Maneater thinks the NCAA still has effective enforcement chops.
