Ruby Tuesday pre-pandemic, with the killer salad bar, or since?

Hard to find 'em anymore - Even before the pandemic, they were reorganizing and closing a bunch of stores. I'm in the Houston metro area, and the closest one is a seven hour drive to Mississippi.

Yes if you enjoy baseball, they have one of the very best minor league parks. The one time we went we splurged for club seating upstairs, which was still less than $25/ticket.

I've had great meals at The Rendezvous in peak times and really mediocre ones when the place wasn't packed. That inconsistency is annoying but the famous joints can get away with it.

I think that some online publications are beginning to discover that Best/Worst lists that are bogus create far more buzz than those that are fairly legit.

I’m biased toward Kansas City because that’s where I first had real BBG at Arthur Bryant’s and Gates, but I’ve had very good BBQ in San Antonio, Nashville, Houston and other cities.

The place that established the bottom of the scale for BBQ is in Durham, N.C. I won’t mark the city as worst because we had other BBQ in Durham that was good.

With the recommendation of the hotel front desk, we tried Bullock’s Bar-B-Q. We didn’t eat much there because my wife, who usually cuts almost everyone an almost insane amount of slack, insisted that we just pay for our meals and leave. I think that real BBQ has to involve the burning of some sort of wood and at least a hint of smoke flavor. The meat at Bullock’s tasted as though it had been poached. I’ve since come to realize that Bullock’s is more of a generic “Southern cooking” restaurant, but BBQ is in their name and gets first billing, so it will remain my worst BBQ joint. In fact, it still holds our family rank as worse restaurant of any sort. If my wife ever walks out of another place, which is extremely doubtful, there’s at least a slight possibility that its position on the overall list might improve.

I lived on the Mississippi Gulf Coast for 18 years. I believe a Ruby Tuesday's salad bar could be considered a farmer's market for some locales in that state. The obesity rate is ... as bad as it gets.

I never had a vegetable in Mississippi or Alabama that wasn't prepared with butter, lard, or a combination thereof, unless it was served in pickled or slaw form.

My youngest sister married a guy from Memphis. On one of their first dates, they went to Graceland. Before she went she asked me what kind of souvenir I would like (old family tradition). I told her, anything with TCB on it. She had never heard of that saying, but she got me a mug with the TCB logo on it. I still have it. I still haven't been to Memphis.

Y’all, I’ve never had a great meal at Rendezvous. I’ve had many “Ehh, this is OK” ones. It’s been many years since I went. I quit because we had a two-hour wait one Saturday for a table.

    I’d rather get a burger from Dyer’s.
