Phil better thank those spectators for the lie during the trophy presentation.

Are they gonna storm the green? Is this a golf tournament or a Jan. 6 riot re-enactment?

I thought we were condemning the lie.

It's South Carolina. Don't give 'em too many ideas.

To answer my question it doesn’t make up for Winged Foot but being the oldest player to win a major is pretty damn cool

The odds in Jan. 2019 that Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson would both win another major championship?

Not the worst consolation prize. The only way to come close to making up for Winged Foot will be to win a U.S. Open to complete the Grand Slam for Mickelson.

    At Torrey Pines, Phil’s backyard
Phil has five more chances with his exemption

Phil’s placed a bet in 2001 that he would win a major in 2021.

What’s great is it might be true.

He'll probably use all of them. Fortunately, his game has never been built on power, power, power. Yes, it's needed, but there are swings that make physical breakdown a near certainty with some. Mickelson's swing isn't violent, torquey and exhausting.

For better or for worse, the average golfer never thinks he could be Tiger Woods. Almost every average golfer, maybe a little cocky, maybe carrying a few extra pounds, thinks he can be Phil Mickelson. I think that's kind of the core of his appeal.

I've never been a Phil guy mostly because I think he is kind of the champion of mediocre middle-aged white assholes I aspire not to become but he deserves to have everything from this. He'll never have Tiger's trophies but I think this is a heck of a consolation prize, not to mention that I think many of those people (and other golf fans who are not mediocre middle-aged white assholes) love him in a way Tiger has never been loved.
