If you weren’t hung up on the quality of play, it was possible to have a helluva good time in the ECHL of the 90s. Little ole Lafayette, La., had a team that averaged over 11k fans in back-to-back seasons. Birmingham was playing in the cavernous BJCC and still managed to sell out 17,000-plus seats a couple times of year. Booster club buses routinely criss-crossed the South like it was an extension of SEC football season.

Minor leagues were special places for special coaches.

Panthers start G Spencer Knight, who was playing for Boston College a couple of months ago, in Game 5

Hockey, dude. Not that this will happen in this case, but didn't Ken Dryden win the NCAAs at Cornell and then the Stanley Cup in Montreal in the same season?

No he spent guarantee playing for the Voyageurs and studying at McGill. I think he spent a year post-Cornell in Winnipeg with the national team and doing his first year law.

in 1971 he only played 6 regular season games and then won the Cup and Smythe that season. The next year he won the Calder as Rookie of the Year.

You are right. I am remembering the Boston barroom version of events, a/k/a "that thieving giraffe."

I told my brother-in-law that Jarry was going to be the reason the Penguins' season ended. Sometimes, being right can suck.

That said, Ilya Sorokin looks like he is going to steal the series for the Islanders. The Penguins dominated last night, but Sorokin was spectacular.

    The kid was terrific
Gave up a goal on the first shot and blanked Tampa the rest of the way — 36 saves

McDavid with a giveaway on the winning Jets goal in 3OT.
I was waiting for Mike Smith to do something stupid to lose the game for the Oilers, but he didn't. He got beat by a good shot from Connor.

There's something about John Forslund working a game in Raleigh among a raucous crowd that feels right.

It's always a bummer when first round series finish and the viewing menu starts to dwindle.
