What's the most underserved sport in terms of coverage?

I think lacrosse is making some inroads another places because it's an appealing avenue for wealthy families. They can create high barriers to entry and dominate the travel teams. I've heard of people in Toronto choosing it for being the best path to Ivy League admission.

MMA was mentioned uptopic, but I don't think it is being hurt by lack of a college or high school feeder programs. The various regional organizations work as a minor league to Bellator, UFC and the like.

Game 2 of Oklahoma-Washington is on ABC tomorrow. Be interested to see what kind of ratings it draws.

  7. No legitimate reason to cover sub-varsity sports unless it's a small town. Then maybe a couple graphs. But that's all

    1. Women's sports across the board. No matter where you are or what the sport at whatever level, this is the correct answer.

    2. Swimming and wrestling. Basketball sucks up all of the coverage oxygen in the winter, at least around here...but as much as I love basketball, it shouldn't. Here in Indiana, state wrestling packs Bankers Life every year, and state swimming features future Olympians every year. Both are severely under-covered given the quality and interest.

    Yes, I was joking.

I just took a junior varsity parent complaint call a few days ago, so it was fresh in my mind.

Looking at the ap wire — acc, sec, big 12 tourney baseball every game covered with briefs but nothing on the softball super regionals, which is basically the same conferences

I have taken those as well. A good call to take while working on a page, so one doesn't actually have to speak to the person (or listen, for that matter).

When the guy finally allowed me to complete my first thought, I said if we get at least some effort at official statistics we will brief it.

Not slackjaw 25-year-old coach saying Joe Blow ran for a 50-yard or so touchdown, and offering no specifics other than the final score.
