Did Manchin get a lot of stuff done for WV with the GOP? Because if he stymies the Dems over the next year, people will wonder what's the point of a Dem Senate if they can't get anything done. Manchin seems like he wants to be in one of thos "Gangs" McCain always used to be in the middle of to broker a deal, but Republicans seem more interested in talking directly to Biden. That said, my biggest complaint about Dems is too many seem more interested in playing up their victimhood than getting something done. If a bill is good enough to have John Lewis' name on it, pass it already.

Murkowski, the Republican Senator who Manchin brought on board for the John Lewis Act, said the other day that there was no way 10 Republican Senators would ever support it. So Manchin would still have to abandon support for the filibuster to get it done. At this point, he's painted himself into a corner. If he keeps up the bipartisanship uber alles routine, he looks the fool. If he abandons it, he looks the perfect flip-flopper.

Obamacare included many, many Republican introduced provisions and amendments - in the end, it didn't get a single GOP vote. Republicans KNOW the Dems will keep negotiating against themselves. To me, bipartisanship is making an effort - if the GOP doesn't bite, they had their shot.
I do think if the Dems went harder on some of these things, the GOP might actually worry about them passing a bill they can't stomach unilaterally and actually vote on a lesser bill.

"Rather than finding new policies to rebuild declining communities, Republicans mobilized anger and despair while offering up scapegoats. The party thought it could control these dark energies on its quest for more power, but instead they would consume it."

    pretentious twaddle

the manner in which some people demonstrate their worth to mankind by making sure that everyone in the room knows that they something special, have survived a bad hair day, or know more than their teachers, employers, parents, friends or anyone else

The conversations I over heard at the "happy hour" were dominated by the pretentions twaddle of college girls who should know better.
