He's in an eternal state of outrage. He's more of a snowflake than an entire classroom of Vasser students majoring in women's studies.

That tweet with "future" news is really fun to think about ...

Saban or Carroll will lead San Jose to the national title.

What about him? He'll command what the market will bear. If it's nothing, tough shit. At least he has the chance. Maybe whatever Brad Wesley type of businessman in the the podunk town his college is in will get him a gig.

Here's what: A few years ago a star player on the softball team of a mid-major school in our market gave hitting lessons for $10 an hour to the little girls at the athletic association where she grew up. Did it first-class, in groups of 4-6, probably made $100 a week during July and August, kicked back a donation to the athletic association for letting her use a field and the batting cage. Guess what? It got reported as a violation, the school got hit with a second-level violation and she had to donate the money back to a charity. Now, a kid can do this.

By the way, based on the last few decisions, who kidnapped Kavanaugh, Barrett and Clarence Thomas and put doubles with common sense in their place?

Answering these questions does not mean the NCAA's position should have been adopted.

Companies have figured out how to differentiate the pay differences between the stock person/cashier/general manager, they can figure out the college sports situation. Will there be a disruption? Definitely, as it should be because the current system is only good for those suits, the coaches, and the fans.

Minor league sports don't have anything near the followings that NCAA football and basketball have. You need that student-athlete mirage to keep people that fanatical, otherwise what do you have? The few players who are good enough at 18 could jump right to the NFL and NBA for way more money than what you are talking about, and what is left without the ties to the university, has no hook to draw people the way the NCAA currently does. The NCAA *is* a minor league already. The university ties, and the student-athlete myth, are what make people that passionate despite the level of play being inferior to the pros.

I don't know - I'm not the NCAA. Emmert gets paid $2.7M per year, so he can at least make an attempt at figuring it out.

I suppose if the guy or woman on a music scholarship gets to endorse their favorite music store.

Like many have said, gonna be some unintended consequences. If Joe Blow gets a scholarship to play football at State U, and then gets hired to huck hamburgers at some booster's restaurant because he is a football player, it's hard not to to consider the money he gets paid from State U to be a State U football player as income.

The IRS is going to have some interesting decisions to make.

And how long before it busts some college athlete who doesn't disclose income from an outside source?

Oh, I'll go further than that. NIL laws have been passed, and in 7 states they are about to take effect. How the hell has the NCAA dithered around this long without coming up with a policy? You could see it coming a mile out. It looks to me like the schools with a state law are going to have a huge recruiting advantage until the other states have one in place. It will probably require Congress to pass a law to standardize things nationally, and you know that won't happen quickly.

The kind of odd thing about this - Well, the SCOTUS decision was unanimous, and there has been somewhat similar legislation proposed by Republicans and Democrats. It seems like something that could be bargained and hammered out, provided it isn't a chip tied to some other bill or legislation. (Wishful thinking on my part, perhaps, but still.)
