I totally get Republican opposition to the For The People Act. They've won the White House two of the last five times with fewer numbers of votes. They've controlled the Senate for much of the last 20 years with fewer voters. Obstructed the will of the majority of the voters with fewer voters. They don't need more people to vote for them to be successful, all they need to do is control how many more people vote for Democrats.
There really should be a voting baseline with regard to registration, ballot processing and eligibility. And a moratorium on any changes within six months of an election.

It's almost as if maybe SCOTUS shouldn't have gutted the Voting Rights Act in the first place.... you know, that part where states with a history of voter suppression had to get pre-clearance before changing voting laws. John Roberts said nobody does that nowadays, nobody.

John Roberts needs to take his pious ass down to Shelby County, Alabama.

Yeah, but Schumer's counter is that he keeps creating opportunities for Manchin to get played by McConnell, trusting that sooner or later, Manchin will be more pissed at Mitch than he is wedded to the filibuster. It might not work, but it's a legit play. A Senator with a wounded ego has been known to rise above principle more than a few times since 1790.
