The Canadiens wouldn’t be in the playoffs if they were in the Atlantic Division this season

    But they're not.
And they are, and they're playing for the Stanley Cup.

No. The belief that all Canadians cheer for other Canadian teams is a myth.

They've been really fun to watch. That goal by that young rookie last night, Caufield I believe, was unreal.

For the most part, all Canadian fansbases dislike or hate their compatriots. I do find that the Habs are getting some love this year because people appreciate them knocking off the Leafs, and a lot of people really didn't want to see Vegas win.

I can't imagine a Canada where, if Toronto was in the Final, non-Leaf fans wouldn't actively root for their failure.

Canadian teams I would root for: Montreal, Edmonton, Winnipeg.

    That is all.

I'll be team Montreal here. Had one of the most fun weekends of my life there and am a huge fan of the city. Would be amazing to see the Canada drought end in this strangest of seasons.

So who do people in Saskatchewan or the Maritimes tend to default to as a rooting interest?

It boggles my mind why Americans think Canadians will default to cheering for a Canadian team. Would Red Sox fans cheer for the Yankees if they were playing the Blue Jays?

Maritimes would largely be a split between Habs, Leafs and Bruins. Lots of Pens fans in Nova Scotia because of Crosby.

Saskatchewan you would likely get a mix of Oilers, Flames, Jets as well as Leafs and Habs.

Southwestern Ontario is big on Detroit teams, Red Wings, Tigers and Lions
