You ever been around the SEC folks who cheer when Alabama wins a national title? It’s the same working theory. Also, I think a lot of Americans already are rooting for the Canadiens because they are an original team and have such a history. It’s like when the Celtics had their championship drought for 20 years or however many years Notre Dame was down. People like when historic teams win. Casual fans get excited.

When the majority of players stop coming from Canada maybe then Canadians will care that the cup hasn’t been won by a Canadian team. It’s not the Olympics or World Cup, it’s all one league.

Good luck to SJ Habs Nation. I think 28 years is a long enough punishment wait after the Game 2 stunt in '93.

    Va te faire foutre, Tricolore.

Anecdotally as a Habs fan, there seems to be more soft support from other fanbases than I would have expected. It !mostly seems to relate to people cheering for Price, or at least not being able to cheer against him.

I’d love to see Shea Weber get a cup as well. He was good for Nashville when not a lot of other things were.

Numerous states in the South suffer from this because of college rivalries. No point in listing them ... Jeff would kill me for exceeding bandwidth.

I covered these playoffs. I was really drained by the time I got on that last flight back to LAX after Game 5. Have a lot of memories. Seeing Montreal kinda burning last night was a reminder. We needed a police escort for our cab back to the hotel, the Sheraton, which was one block from Chez Paree.

That was my last year living in Montreal as a student. I went to all the home games that year in cheap standing room tickets except game 1 of the Finals.

The stick game was amazing. We cheered the team on to the bus afterward, Demers was trying to look stoic in the front seat but kept smiling and giving the thumbs up every 90 seconds or so. Roy was the last person to board and the cheering was wild.

I actually saw Marty the day of or day before the stick game. He was walking confidently past campus with a stunning companion. I like to think I put the hex on him.

Game 5 there was no doubt who was going to win. It was one long party. I hung around downtown until it got dicey.

So last night was a first I think. First Game 7 to end 1-0 with the goal being a short-handed one.

If that didn't happen they might still be playing.
