I'm of two minds about this. First of all, Mo'Nique has come under fire in the past for choices she has made about her private life that are none of our business. She should know better and respect that she and everyone has a right to personal agency when it comes to media exposure.

Second, I have had more than a few talks with the young people in my care about living down to expectations. If someone is determined to be hateful and make assumptions, there's not much you can do about it. However, if you give people a chance to see the real you, instead of fronting like the person you think they think you are, you get the mutual benefit of being allowed in someone else's life and vice versa This was especially true when it came to things like speech tournaments. (Yes, meeting HIPAA and doing things like this takes all kinds of precautions.)

I get what Mo'Nique is trying to do here. I have friends who bristle when they see young women in scuffs and clothing more appropriate for breakfast getting loud in public. I feel a degree of that when Southerners do and say stupid things and when people from my SES behave badly. Still, there is a right way to approach this. Shaming strangers in public wasn't it.

It isn't like Coronado is lily white, 20 percent of the student body is Latino. My goodness what a horrible look for the school.
