If only there were some signs Bauer was this much of a deviant and asshole.

    Broad brush, flail away
Meanwhile, this Plaschke column was published before today's MLB decision. As usual, Bill is exceptional:
Column: MLB cannot let Dodgers pitcher Trevor Bauer start Sunday

I don't know if there is one thing that you can say had to be the clincher for why they had to shut him down. But for me personally (and I'd guess lots of other people), it was the photos.

With or without those photos, though, Plaschke is right about one thing. MLB isn't the criminal justice system and their standard doesn't have to be presumption of innocence until proven guilty. Whatever your job is, if you are involved in something that is bringing a lot of negative attention to the place you work, nobody is going to blink an eye if they say, "You know what, don't come around here right now."

There's literally no unrecoverable acts in American sporting life, as the lionization of Saint Kobe proved last year. But Bauer's not Kobe. It doesn't feel crazy to say he might have made his last appearance for the Dodgers. At least.

I have worked for more than one media employer that said if you get a DUI, you're gone. Even if you plan to contest. That was unspoken company policy at each of the places.

In Kobe's case, even though they did have a little evidence to work with, it was going to be a difficult prosecution.

This? There are photos of her with black eyes and other injuries. She says Bauer did it. She wants charges. That is all the probable cause they need, unless they are trying to find reasons not to arrest him. . ...which they obviously are. The photos plus the text messages that have been reported alone would be enough to sustain an indictment that a lot of experienced prosecutors would feel comfortable running with.

That's a mighty big big contract to eat.
So if they were to do that, how much of the tab would the Dodgers have to pick up when Bauer, after a few months of reputation-laundering, gets claimed by the Braves or the Cardinals? All of it? Or will the new team have to pay some relatively minor amount while the Dodgers claim the rest?

They paid David Price $16 million not to play last season. The Red Sox were also paying him not to play. He had a great year in 2020.
