Who is the bigger gambler, Michelson or Jordan? And how many other top athletes are betting millions? Antoine Walker lost his career salary trying to keep up with Jordan.

Jaromir Jagr ran into some issues, as did Thomas Vanek.

I can picture him biting on a pencil, his feet up on his desk, trying to even things out for bashing a white guy by tying it into Gwen Berry's protest.

In retrospect, Phil was never as good as I thought he was back in the day. But he wasn't always this bad, right?

Gambling is a subject that makes Phil light up and go tilt, because he is truly ashamed of it to some extent. About 10 people way more inside on the golf world than me told me that when he switched to Callaway on the very eve of the 2004 Ryder Cup, which no golfer would ever do except under extreme duress, and which helped lead to a spectacular Ryder Cup meltdown on his part, part of the deal was Callaway picking up his Vegas markers. This was during said Ryder Cup. I was also told Amy told him he'd better cut it out. He really does love his family. Upon our very slight acquaintance, I'm tempted to say no man was ever good enough for Amy Mickelson, but she's stood by this total loon for decades. It's gotta be true love, and it must mean Phil has something more than the total loondom I've always thought was his real character trait.

HA! I meant Mushnick. Mickelson's gambling, ehh it's his money. Just don't piss off the mob in Detroit like Denny McLain. (Which apparently he did)

Don't know. I never read him back in the day. I've only read stuff from the past ten years or so... and every single piece has been shitting on Black people. Seriously, I don't think I've ever read a Mushnick column that didn't start with him soaking a cross in gasoline.

Tiger switched from Titleist to Nike right before the 2002 Ryder Cup. When asked why now, he shrugged and said, “the Majors are over.”

The golf media is a shell of what it used to be (in numbers and quality), which has allowed Phil to be Phil with little consequence until an outlet like Detroit stuck their courts reporter onto an (old) story. And even then, it's not like he faced a firing squad.

If Phil hadn't paid off those markers in Vegas, he very well could have ... :D

Stopped reading Mushnick a few years ago. No need to give Murdoch any fucking clicks.
