This. When I lived in Memphis, visitors always wanted to go to the Rendezvous. It was wildly inconsistent even when the original cast of characters was running it.

Two of my favorite BBQ places have suffered fires in the last 2 years. One in a tiny town reopened last year and another in a bigger suburb will reopen in the next month or two.

Business-related fires, weather-related fires or arson fires?

I think both started in the pits.

Any person who says “I’m from NYC and I can’t find good pizza” I think I’ll ask them where I can find shitty NYC barbecue.

Central BBQ. I downed a half rack of ribs, mac n cheese and slaw and had a beer from Wiseacres. Friends had pulled pork and brisket nachos, all was met with approval. We also got there right at 6, so our wait was minimal compared to what it was an hour later when we left.

We also took in the Civil Rights Museum. Whomever put on their website that you can get through it in an hour and a half was lying. We were there for 2 hours and didn't even make it to the exhibit across the street.

We were only in Memphis for a day and all agreed we'd love to go back for a longer visit.

Is it sad that I actually miss Sbarro? Not that I would go there if I were in New York, but in California, it was a good spot if all you wanted was a slice.

I have for sure accidently paid money for a slice worse than what Sbarro serves.

Same - They had one at a truck stop in Connecticut, and it was nice to grab a giant slice or two, a side of that weird cucumber salad, and the butter soaked breadsticks. All ridiculously unhealthy, but it hit the spot for the last leg of long road trips for me, or provided cheap carbs when I was driving Uber.
