I remember when Slazenger balls were considered upscale and you'd only find them in pro shops. I guess the ProV1 pretty much put an end to that.

I played with 60-year old Spalding Lawson Little irons until switching to Callaway irons last year.

I cannot for the life of me hit the Callaway 5 as well as I hit the Spalding. Which now feels like a sledgehammer.

This is quite possibly the truest statement ever made on this board.

My Dad got new Ping Eye 2s when I was a kid and he gave me his old Tommy Armour blades. Lord knows how many worms I killed around suburban Atlanta while trying to hit those damn things. Ruined my chances at a scholarship, ha.

I think I've told this before, but humor me, I'm an old man.

When I played somewhat regularly, I couldn't hit irons for squat. I could hit woods decently (though not all that great). Any kind of iron. Just couldn't do it. So I found a set of all woods. I had a 9-wood, a 10-wood, a 12-wood. I kept a putter, a sand wedge (me in a bunker was a guaranteed adventure), a 7-iron for chipping and the rest of the bags was filled with woods.

Broke 90 for the first time playing with that bag. With a 10-wood in my hand from 150 yards out, I was deadly!

I'm playing with some friends one day and on an extremely good roll for me. Three pars in a row, sitting in prime position in the fairway on the next hole and I hit my second shot on the green. One of my pals says damn it, just swing the same way with an iron. Hands me his 8, I drop another ball and use the same swing. It squirts way to the right, like Playthrough killing worms the whole way.

    Just couldn't do it.

No one will lament the departure of Nike from the golf equipment world but I loved the Mojo balls. $19.99 for two dozen, soft enough around the greens and if you can’t find a ball with “MOJO” stamped on it in giant letters you probably shouldn’t be playing. I still have a box here somewhere.

Because no one asked...I learned to chip in a schoolboy chum's backyard, late at night, 25 cents a shot with a carryover. We'd plant a stick in the ground. A club member, he had a single digit handicap as a teenager but we were neck and neck around the green. I chip in the backyard still, and I can hit my barbecue two out of three tries from 20-25 yards.

The driver is the next club in my bag to get replaced.
Had 2 of the Ping TISI drivers......loved them.
Went from that to the Nike Vapor Speed driver. It was OK.
Been playing the Taylor Made R11 for the last 3.
I'm thinking the new Taylor Made SIM is right in Chef's wheelhouse.

I have a friend with a ridiculous stash of Mojos in the garage, having loaded up when Nike got out of the equipment biz. Far be it from me to criticize, as a guy who can't stop buying golf shoes even though I play once a week and not year-round.

Love we have talked gear for 24 straight hours since the match involving Bro-Aging Jock and Aging Bro-Aging Jock didn’t amount to shit.

That whole thing was garbage. A 6-hour round of golf. Who wants that? Rodgers made some putts, but there were no other great shots that I can recall. Barkley had the best line: "There are lights at 18? They better move 'em to 16."
