The KC Star piece on KU football

This story made the rounds Sunday and I was curious about thoughts here:

    https://www.kansascity.com/sports/college/big-12/university-of-kansas/article252152528.html

The gist: For slightly unclear reasons, a KU football player ran afoul of four teammates who lived in the same apartment building. According to the player and his family, they threatened and harassed him - one maybe had a gun in his shorts - to the point where he eventually left the school.

KU paid the kid money - basically an agreement - to leave and not talk about what happened.

The family is talking about it - under the pretense that they intend to sue the school. (This is written late in the story, so there’s little mystery about why the family is talking.)

The players are never named. They’re contacted, and they decline comment, but not named. Les Miles and Jeff Long are featured prominently in the story.

My take: It’s the family’s opening salvo in lawsuit negotiations, and the KC Star got the scoop, and the paper made an independent, highly questionable choice not to name names, in part because it’s possible the situation isn’t as cut and dry as the family makes it.

If Lea Miles would go to these lengths over some Kansas losers …

That was my suspicion as well. There’s more to this sordid tale.

Somehow everyone involved in this story came out looking uniquely bad. Hard to believe this program is in one of the worst stretches in the sport’s history.
