Who was the last good homegrown pitcher? Jered Weaver? Lackey? Prrcival? (Not counting Ohtani)

If I'm the GM with Walsh, Fletcher, Trout and Ohtani (all under 30) -- and Adell and Marsh close to the show -- I understand the gamble that you hope you can fast-track some serviceable arms rather than spend $$ you don't have on questionable FA ones. The Angels are under some crazy hex as to why they can't produce in-house pitching, so out of 20 guys the odds have to eventually be in your favor.

Having said that, the Braves are a perfect example as to why there's no such thing as a pitching prospect. In 2016, they had acquired Newcomb, Allard, Anderson, Toussaint, Soroka, Fried and Wentz, all considered "can't miss" guys.

So here we are in 2021: Soroka's out for the year. Toussaint has 11 total major league starts and hasn't pitched since COVID. Allard's a Ranger. Wentz is an Erie Seawolf (if he returns from TJ surgery). Anderson and Fried in the rotation and Newcomb is a 40-man roster guy, out of all that talent.

The Angels are on the extreme end of what appears to be a trend of overdrafting pitchers while picking up position players as undrafted free agents. (A quick scan of the draft shows about 360 of the 612 picks were pitchers, and to be honest, I have no idea how that compares historically but it seems high.) The Dodgers and Indians went pitching heavy, too. I wonder if eliminating short season A ball factors into development of hitters over a longer span of time.

Does anyone know if Shohei Ohtani is participating in the All-Star game?

    Because MLB is stupid.
Has Joe Buck OD'd on edibles like Maureen Dowd that one column? He sounds very weird.

The uniforms do suck; however, I could maybe see myself buying the Angels All-Star cap
