Remember when "chink in the armor" cleaned house at the WWL? Stephen A is untouchable.

ESPN apparently likes the angry Black man character that SAS portrays on the network.

Think about how desperately Jason Whitlock wanted this role, and how much of a raging asshole he had to be to get flushed out at TWO networks glad to employ a caricature who makes white people feel better about themselves.

Does anyone really care that much about his opinions? I can remember back in the day, when something newsworthy happened on a weekend, thinking, “maaaaaan, I can’t wait to hear what Howard Stern has to say about this Monday.” Even today, there are certain sports talk hosts I seek out when something big happens— Steven A has never been one of these. I probably am more interested in Whitlock because I want to see how stupid it is, but I don’t seek it out either.

SAS now is exactly what Whitlock wanted to be.

I honestly don’t know how people not on this site feel
about SAS. I know how I feel about him, and I also know you if you ever visit ESPN’s home page you can’t escape him. Every time he opens his mouth, a video gets promo’d near the top.

I use their app for scores and occasional live streams if I’m out of the house. Their news stories and columns are just the stuff I have to get past to arrive where I’m going. It’s like a mall Sears circa 1988.

To steal a wrestling term, I've always felt like Steven A. gets "go away" heat. Meaning, I don't think the audience actually likes him, or even likes to hate him in the way they did Howard Stern. However, based on name recognition, he's still going to get a better rating than the completely generic morning show - Golic and Greeney, or repeats of SportsCenter - plus Steven A. is willing to go out there and eat shit every day for his $12M. That being said, I roll my eyes whenever someone like Simmons or Jalen Rose attempts to defend him as just "playing a role," and that he's actually a considerate guy in private. Don't really care, if your public persona is built around being an asshole for eight hours a day.

There's no shortage of people willing to be a shit-eating asshole for big money.
