A guy at the Polo Grounds was killed by a stray bullet in the 1950s at a Giants game.

In 1950, a fan at the Polo Grounds died after being hit by a stray bullet that was fired from outside the ballpark. (NOTE: The story link has a pic of the front page of the Daily News, which has a photo of the poor guy’s body. They really didn’t care about graphic photos back then).

Oddly, it's not that uncommon. A fan was hit by a stray bullet fired from outside the stadium at Busch Stadium in 2017. This article has a list of several other incidents as well, including at Tropicana Field in 2012 and Kaufmann Stadium in 2000.

That is really bad- I recall us being asked to run a photo nearly as unpleasant following the Marathon bombing.
Dude's legs were gone. We did win that fight (which was rare).

I remember seeing an SI two-page spread photo at the Boston Marathon bombing, showing bloody victims and included a severed foot lying on the ground.

It's the Daily News from 1950. Not uncommon at all.
