The Zinger was pretty cool when his partner, as they're talking about the new champion, called him "Colin Montgomery."

Zinger let Hicks ramble on, then began his comments with Morikawa's correct last name, which is how you're supposed to do it.

So seamless I didn't notice it, either. Great observation, I Should Coco. Hicks just got consumed with trivial stats at the end when you need to let the broadcast breathe and the emotions of the moment play out. It's like the stat guy handed him a 3x5 card with every possible "youngest winner of two majors in shortest amount time" comment.

NOT. Us others are same University of California, separate distinct campuses with same courses offered.

Exhibit A that shoots holes in the age-old philosophy spewed by Tour players anytime pace of play comes up, “The more time I take, the better I play.”

True academically. In sports reference, Berkeley is the University of California. The others need the geographic modifier.

Hicks’ making fun of the 41-year-old manbun’s being a “world feed favorite” was funny stuff.

For sportz, it's Cal; for academics, it's Berkeley.

Growing up in rural eastern Canada, I just associated Berkeley with hippies and academia. In high school I was stunned to learn it was also a D1 school in a a major conference.

I did a summer program there and got a “Berkeley” sweatshirt because it looked cooler back on my home campus than Cal.

I'll defer to my southern neighbors, the Californians. Up here, if you're going to the UC school in Berkeley, for either school or sports, you say you're going to Cal, or California. Not Cal-Berkeley or Berkeley.

Then again, up here we drive on I-5 or I-205 or I-405 or I-84, or 99. Not the 5, the 405, or the 205, or the 10 or 110.

And to get back to the origin of this tangent, freaking no one goes to Cal State Chico. In any universe.

I've told this story before, but my Dad and I went to the first U.S. Open at Bethpage and on Sunday we headed to the 18th grandstand first-thing to stake out a spot (killing time by bringing all the NYC papers, back when they were nice and thick). John Daly shot 81 on Saturday to fall to DFL and went out first on Sunday morning. About two hours later, he came to the 18th. It was a long time 'til Dad and I saw the next group. And Daly shot a more respectable 73.
