If the deaths pile up again, every officeholder needs to be asked if they've had the vaccine.

And somehow they'll claim triumph in their defeat. And they'll have a klan of admirers eager to defend them.

Our neighbors to the north have surpassed us in the % of the total population that has been fully vaccinated.

Here is the thing - the shot is free, those health care bills are not. I'd think the health insurance people would require proof of vaccination for continued coverage, or really jack up your rate.

Yeah if they can deny coverage or charge more to smokers, why not the non-vaxxed.

At a guess, because it would enrage all their Magat non-vaxers, who would lay into their Congressmen to screw whatever insurance company over. That and put the heat on their state lege to do the same - no longer offer whatever company for state employees, all the standard stuff government contract/regulation screws to punish the company.

Insurance companies have since time immemorial refused, let alone charged prohibitive rates, for policies of all kinds, not just health insurance. Try getting homeowner's insurance on Cape Cod. If a MAGA legislature fucked with them, they might simply pull up stakes and leave.

My extended family, of which there are/were Trump supporters, did not hesitate on the vaccine. I think it's more of an instinct of self-preservation than anything else, but they all got it done. I was surprised.

At my church I've talked to two people who haven't. Both of the "I control what goes in my body" kind of people. One of them is one of those outwardly successful, brilliant people (especially about music) whose relative wealth/intelligence masks significant personal issues. Extreme hoarding, in his case. Not a Trumper. Or even a Republican. Last time, I believe he wrote "Bono" on the ballot.
