Yeah but does he like his driver?

There's the classic story of Gary Player winning a tournament with a new driver, and he commented after the round that it was "better than sex."
A couple of nights later, after he got home, he found the driver in bed, after his wife had wrapped it in one of his her nighties.

Fantastic story; I certainly admired his iron play (he hits a 6 iron as accurate, if not more, than most PGA pros hit their 9, which is amazing) but was always worried that his driver was only one way (cut always) and his putting was shaky. Well he certainly showed that he could hit fairways with his driver and that his putting could come alive. He's the anti-Bryson, which is a gift to us fans, we get smiles with the pursuit, not nervous twitching and endless discussion over every mindless detail.

For growing up just 15 minutes from Tahoe and then going to college just 15 minutes from Tahoe, the guy sure knows how to make a winning Sandwich.

I know we all love Tahoe but I believe he grew up in SoCal; and Cal is 2 hrs from Tahoe. Maybe you were thinking about him winning his first tournament in Reno (near Tahoe).

Berkeley can sometimes be two hours from the Carquinez Bridge during rush hour. I do not miss Bay Area traffic, no matter how pretty the place is.

And yeah, that's a tired SJ.com joke. Plus, a stab at the PGA Championship talking heads who didn't miss a chance to mention the kid from La Canada Flintridge who "grew up playing nearby Harding Park." Which is about 383 miles one-way from his house. I guess carrying clubs on Amtrak might be worked.

And I have equal opportunity distain for the UGA/Georgia Tech/Clemson guys and the "nearby" Hilton Head/Sea Island references. Compared to the Moon, yes. Or Tahoe.

In the same state isn't "nearby." Unless you're in Rhode Island, like Rhody31.

Dana Ebster was a great story at the Ladies Senior Open this week. As first alternate her town raised the money for her to play, then she ties Annika Trumpenstam for the early lead. She finished +3 but actually jumped up and down when she made big putts. Real positive emotion that was good to see.

That's pretty good. I briefly saw that she was in the lead yesterday and thought "zzzzzz."

PGA TOUR and European Tour announce details of historic Strategic Alliance

Interesting notes .... Scottish Open/Barbasol will be played the same week and both will be open for FedEx and Race to Dubai points. John Deere will no longer be the last chance to qualify for the Open. Also, TPC Boston/Liberty National both out of the playoff rota for next year. Memphis opens the playoffs and is not listed as a WGC event. Only two WGC events on the schedule -- the Match Play in March and the HSBC Champions in October.
