It's not as bad as the First Amendment but people need to learn the definition of HIPAA rights. Being asked if she has had the vaccine is not a violation of those rights. She can answer for herself or not. Being forced to answer is, but obviously not the case here. Most common violation would be her medical provider giving out that information against her will, which also did not happen. It's a fun thing to hide over.

And, yes, not answering means she probably hasn't gotten it. Or doesn't want to let down her wacky fans by saying she has been vaccinated.

I'd bet she got it. She's in public surrounded by Trumpist mouth breathers every week, if not more often. There's no way in hell she admits it, though.

If she hasn't, well, my guess is that Delta will catch up with her sooner or later, with my money on sooner.

Future historians will have a field day with the way the United States in particular bungled every step of the worst pandemic since the Spanish Flu.

We have a working vaccination created in record time and paid for by the government and yet no cohesive strategy for mandatory compliance. That's not just Trumpists, but a disproportional number of poor white, black and hispanics who don't trust the government, the health care system or don't have the means to get to a pharmacy.

We made Polio vaccines mandatory. We make childhood immunizations mandatory. We make people get driver's licenses and register to vote and pay taxes. But a pandemic? Let's just punt.

There's plenty of blame to go around. The politicization, the inconsistent messaging from top medical experts, the lack of a coordinated effort nationwide to lockdown or open up, terrible guidance from the CDC from the get go -- worst of which was "hey, let's lift the mask mandates despite less than 50 percent compliance" -- social media disinformation, the obvious ignorance of basic science by a majority of the population and general stubbornness/stupidity.

Scientists have been strongly suggesting for decades that the world was overdue for a pandemic. And we got one. And based on the complete breakdown of leadership, trust and ignorance, the genie's not going back in the bottle again. The bigger wave is here. Hopefully, the vaccinated among us will survive to tell the tale.

I'm sorry more people are going to die and we're all going to be inconvenienced again. But damn, for having large brains, homo sapiens as a species is a dumb animal.

One of my colleagues specializes in health care law. She told me that her husband said she is not allowed to complain anymore about people incorrectly citing HIPAA re: the vaccine because it was driving her crazy.

I'm pretty sure calling out people for mis-citing HIPAA is a violation of their rights under HIPAA.

plenty of blame to go around…starting with China. The pandemic has killed so many in so many different places. The US’s handling of the virus, while poor - read that again, I think it was poor - did not exactly kill people in nations large and small, left-leaning and right-leaning. But one could say China has a hand in all of it. Because it does.
