Good thing there's another one in Paris just three years away. By then, the competition will have been thinned.

Just a guess. In several sports, the athletes only recently qualified. So every moment counted. Also: most athletes are in individual sports. You are the team.

Excluding the nutball microchip kind of excuse, I have read some athletes have been hesitant about vaccine side effects affecting their training.

That’s what I meant to say but didn’t specify particularly well.

Both have medaled before, Alvarez in short-track speedskating in 2014.

For old times sake. Honestly, I don't know if it was written out or ad-libbed - but this is still brilliant.

The Japanese are going to lose billions even if the games limp to a conclusion.

    It's always Christopher Burr.

This brought on the run of segments I semi-derisively refer to as "Screwing Around! with Mary Carillo". I used to be mad about them, particularly when they only showed like eight skiers in the men's downhill in Vancouver to get one of these segments in but somewhere around the time she was shooting vodka on the air with Bob Costas in Sochi I warmed to it. The season premiere of "Screwing Around!" aired late last night. You guessed it, sumo.

Paris needs to bring back the swimming obstacle course for the 2024 Games.

That softball field in the middle of a baseball diamond is a bad look.

As a metaphor for the general official contempt for women’s sports it’s dead-on, though.
