That was a massively smart hire. Instead of a complete teardown, he understood that he could renovate on the fly with a team that's still mostly filled with 30-somethings and retreads that have found the Fountain of Youth. Mike Yazstremski? Kevin Gausman? YGBFKM.

After three World Series championships, they lost 98 games in 2017. Four years later, they're as good as the Dodgers and Padres -- and the kid they drafted second behind Casey Mize, Joey Bart, is still going to be a stud for the next decade.

It cost more to ride BART to the game than for the tickets in 1974. And that wasn't very expensive, either. Maybe $2.20 each way from Pleasant Hill to Coliseum, having to transfer at 19th or Lake Merritt? Best thing was having an entire section to yourself, even after they won three consecutive titles, unless the Yankees or Red Sox were in town.

Shoot, I loved those late 70s/early '80s A's teams - I have no idea why my parents would let a pre-pubescent go to a baseball game alone - they were always day games of course - but I guess they figured $10 for the ticket, BART and food was less than they'd have to pay a babysitter. And the security people and fans looked out for each other too - so there is that.

Four runs in the top of the ninth off Kenley Jansen. Giants win!

Oh hell yeah! Three out of four sits just fine with me!

And why was Muncy flipping his lid?

Jansen blows another one in the ninth. Tying run scores on a bad call on a check swing but a gift strike earlier in the at bat kept it going.

Dave Roberts sucks. It was OK to go back to Jansen but not leave him in so long.

May take me a couple of hours to calm down enough to sleep after that one.

Giants wasted a lot of money on hotel rooms this week, they're living rent-free in Jansen's head after the last couple of days.

This seems so much like 2010 to me. I was shocked that Roberts stayed with Jansen after the Ruf walk.

Homers on Dodgers postgame show whining about the check swing and how the 2B didn’t stretch enough on a force play that was overturned but don’t say it’s Jansen’s poor pitching that put them in position for those plays to make a difference.

Mike Krukow picked it up quickly on the Giants telecast. Couldn't find the strike zone with a GPS.

For the rest of my life, I’m never going to forget the September night in 2010 when the Giants went down early but slowly rallied against the Dodgers bullpen and won it late thanks to a series of homers in the 8th and 9th with Broxton giving it up to Uribe. Sparked that magical run that eventually saw them go to the series.
