Like how Florida State’s closest conference rival, Georgia Tech — in the market outside the state with the largest alumni base, only play every few years.

Your reminder that the ACC divisions are rigged specifically to ensure that Miami and Florida State play each other for the championship on a regular basis - a matchup that has never happened in the history of the Swofford Bowl.

FSU was in favor of a North-South split. But the old Big East schools didn’t want to basically be stuck in a reconstituted Big East, minus Miami, while losing yearly opportunities for games in Florida (and Atlanta) to help with recruiting.

“God, why didn’t we think of that.” -110,000 Ohio State fans wishing their band looked 40 percent more like a fascist state’s military parade.

IIRC, wasn't that part of why the Oklahoma schools didn't want to go to the Pac-12 the last time the Big 12 blew up? The Pac-12 was proposing an east-west split with Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Colorado and Utah as the core of the eastern division, and the Big 12 transplants were reluctant to move into what was basically their old conference with a new name.

ESPN ran a story today that said 'the Longhorns and Sooners would need a two-thirds majority vote -- 11 of 14 schools -- to be approved to join the conference." Two/thirds is only 10 votes. Three/quarters is 11 votes. Does someone know for sure?

When chancellors of schools like Texas Tech and Oklahoma State talk of standIng for fair play, loyalty, blah blah blah in college sports it reminds me of a high school kid who could not get a date bragging about the virtues of chastity. If Tech or OSU had been invited they would have done the same thing as Texas or Oklahoma.

Been there, done that. I don't know how much of that split was on the ND end, as implied.

Tip your cap and round the bases.

All that crap John Swofford pulled ... only for it to blow up in his face. Annually. Truly a highlight.

BTW, Jim Phillips, here's a project to chew on for yourself and some of the folks in Greensboro ...

This is where I tell you that Duke and N.C. State - two schools 25 miles apart, natural rivals dating back to their days in the Southern Conference - didn't play each other in football for seven years. Seven.

Here's more for the folks to tackle in Greensboro, Jim Phillips. Do the work behind the scenes and stop sucking up to Notre Dame. OK?
