Dallas County voted almost 65 percent in favor of Biden -- so maybe Hansen knows exactly what he is doing.

    Mike Lynch, maybe?

I can't think of a story Mike Lynch ever broke that was seismic like the SMU stuff was.

I don't know if Marv Albert was delivering any scoops on WNBC in the 1980s, but the fact that he did that in addition to the Rangers and Knicks counts for something.

Readers from the NYC area can correct me but I think Warner Wolf on WABC had higher ratings than Marv. I read that Marv attributed it to the fact that WABC had invested in better video technology and could show more highlights. I don't know if that is true. But evidently Warner Wolf was a hell of a local sports anchor. He dominated Washington and then evidently was at top of the ratings in NYC.

I remember that I picked up a book that listed Marv as an author. At the time he was doing the Jets, Rangers, anchoring at the local station and doing either the Giants on radio or working on NBC. The book had a nice picture of Marv's first wife and four children, who at the time were roughly high school age through middle school. I remember saying to myself that this man can never see his family with his work schedule. I wondered how much money he needed to live well and if it was worth it to work so hard.

Obviously subsequent events demonstrated Marv motivations not to go home but I have always been naïve.

Warner Wolf was The Man in an era in which NYC had no shortage of Sports Guys (not sports guys, thankfully). Jerry Girard, Sal Marchiano, Marv, Len Berman. Every one a legend. The only person with a profile anywhere close to that now is Bruce Beck, who does it on sheer enthusiasm, hustle and a legitimate love of good stories big and small.

Which I think demonstrates the decline of the influence of the position and local news in general. There are people on this board who know the history of local news better than me but I think ratings are down 80-90% from the 80's. I don't even know the names of the local sports guys in my market now.

Warner Wolf's catch phrase was "Let's go to the videotape." Now you can pull up highlights on your smart phone within minutes of them happening. The world changed.

I always wondered what happened to Len Berman's career. He made it to the NBC host chair for a variety of sports and went no further.

Roy Firestone as well, except his with the mothership.

Firestone was loaded with talent. Stellar interviewer.

The guys in L.A. are the same as 30-40 years ago. I don't know if that's a good thing or a bad thing.

Len Berman had a midday gig some years ago with WFAN for a time, it did not end well.

Still miss Jerry Girard on WPIX.

Same here. I used to be more involved and knew everyone in sports at the local stations including the videographers. Now, no one. Have no clue.

Berman was bumped off the Sunday NFL show for Costas because he was perceived as being to bland. But he did WNBC sports for 27 years and them went the place most local anchors wind up; AM radio. According to Wikipedia he is now on WOR in New York.
