Get ready for a Cubs-Reds brawl the next few days

I'm not going to argue (no, really) the Pirates aren't terrible, but it's damn near everyone doing this these days. The Cubs kept Kris Bryant in the minors long enough in 2015 to gain another year of control. Here we are, in the extra season they got from Bryant by gaming the system, and he's on his way out as they're not even trying despite the organization making money hand over fist. The Indians let a young core splinter apart. Peter Gammons Tweeted today the Nationals may not lock up Trea Turner. On and on it goes. Maybe it'll get better with the next CBA (spoiler alert: it won't).

Baez looked like a fucking idiot. That might have been over-the-top for a pennant-winning hit. Idiot.

Agreed. Even the notoriously cheap Dolans in Cleveland had a couple years where they opened the purse a bit , got a minority investor to chase a title before amping back down. Pittsburgh had a nice roster for a few years there and didn’t do anything. That franchise deserves better ownership.

It's a shame that fans of sports teams are so powerless.

Those teams have also done the opposite, spending to add players when they had a chance to contend. The Pirates don't do that. Ever. When they finally got to the playoffs after over 20 years of losing records, the organization's response was to cut payroll and raise ticket prices to maximize the profit rather than actually try to build on that success.

He and Amir Garrett have a long history. Which is why I loved it.

I quit watching the Mariners last night when they fell behind 7-0. My son tells me this morning they won 11-8. Holy crap. They are nine games above .500 and only one game out in the wild card. They have young talent, and aren't keeping them in the minors, even though Raleigh and Kelenic and Moore can't hit their weight right now. Finally there might be some hope.

Moore absolutely crushed that grand slam. That might be the craziest I've seen an M's dugout and crowd since Edgar's 2B in the 1995 ALDS. It looked and sounded absolutely insane.

Were I a Nationals fanboy looser (hi Moddy!), Gammons saying Trea Turner might not sign with with them would have me confident he'll sign with the them.

This happened with the Rays # 1 pick Drew Rasmussen in 2017. They didn't like his physical, didn't sign him. He had another TJ surgery, went to the Brewers in a lower round the next year. Now he's back with the Rays.
