And that was stupid in itself. The alternates should have been kept separate otherwise, as it happened, one goes down they both go down

I missed the first five minutes of the coverage, so I'm glad NBC fessed up to the fact that their primetime coverage is "plausibly live." But there should have been at least one more explanation by Tirico in the segment. And yes, TV has gotten bolder and bolder in presenting "live" events without context.

This isn't 1980, when 99.9 percent of Americans didn't know the score of the hockey game in Lake Placid. You can't have your news side talk about Simone Biles all day and suddenly act like it's unfolding in real time. That borders on unethical.

It's also probably a huge factor in why primetime audience numbers have cratered. Why watch the whole movie if you already find out the ending 16 hours before? With streaming, TiVo, Facebook, Twitter and Instragram, you can't expect to keep the final score -- or Simone Biles withdrawing -- a secret for ratings that suck.

I am enjoying the FB comments from people upset at local media outlets, ESPN and the rest for "spoiling" the primetime broadcasts by reporting the results right after they happen.

I’m starting to worry that @BTExpress fell down a crevice or something and that’s why he hasn’t posted about glorious people’s triumph for mother Russia.

I made the mistake of looking up Whitlock’s Twitter.

That might have been Michael Phelps' most coherent and well-spoken moment. He definitely has walked in Simone Biles' shoes, with the almost unreasonable expectations placed upon him. Best moment of actual analysis so far.

NBC wants you to assume everything is live and. You aren’t looking in the upper right hand corner to notice they toggle back and forth with a live designation

Phelps seemed to get a bit choked up talking about Biles a few minutes ago.
