The Rona started in 2016 when we made athletes dive into a pool the color of a shamrock shake. Change my mind.

 

I couldn't get over some of the outright hostility toward the victims in some cases. I read thread about McKayla Maroney telling her story. She said Nassar did that "treatment" to her more than 100 times (I forget the exact number). People questioned why she didn't walk away or speak up. She had to know what was going on, they said. It was her dream since she was a very young child. She gave up a normal childhood and adolescence to pursue that dream. Her family also made plenty of sacrifices (both financial and otherwise) and if she walked away or if she spoke up (at a time when no once else was speaking up), there were dozens of other girls that were right there for the Karolyis to replace her in a heartbeat.

Then there was the asshole who said that because it happened so many times, "at some point it had to be consensual" 1). All of those assaults happened when she was under 18 so there was no way they could have been consensual. 2). Even if she were old enough, for it to be consensual, both parties would have had to agree that they were engaging in sexual activity. He was having sex with her under the guise of it being "legitimate" medical treatment. There's no way that could be consensual.

Just saying I am now rooting for Iran. This guy’s look and name are just badassery to the highest level.

If they'd beaten the Americans, the insane propaganda from the Mullahs alone would have made the national embarrassment worth it.

 

I'm reminded of another one of those great headlines I didn't write, after USMNT lost to Iran in pool play in the World Cup: "Allah does it to The Great Satan again."

 

Yeah, that 200 fly was one of the most suspicious looking races I've seen at this Olympics so far.
