Sorry. Allison Felix is the chosen star in women's track. Well, her and Sydney McLaughlin.

They're damned if they do, damned if they don't. NBC got barely half of the 2016 rating for the 2021 ceremony, and though cord-cutting and the pandemic have something to do with it, a lot of the damage they did to that number probably came when they aired it live in the same slot as the Today Show (which I'm glad they did).

I mean, they're just fucked. FINA is willing to play ball but the simple fact is that the vast majority of the medals at this Olympiad are being awarded between 2 and 8 a.m. on the East Coast (3 p.m.-9 p.m. in Tokyo). Unfortunately, the problem with a global event like the Olympics is someone always draws the short straw in terms of time slots. Every event that gets engineered into prime time at NBC's behest is in the middle of the night in Europe. And in 2024, if they start the 100m final at the same time (9:50 p.m. local) it'll air at 4:50 a.m. in Tokyo and 3:50 p.m. in New York.

If NBC could veto the IOC from having Olympics in a zone between Moscow and Honolulu, they probably would have by now.

Yes, I'm aware. They still suck.

I will say that it is very weird that NBC is bouncing between events that are live (beach volleyball, the track heats and upcoming women's 100 hurdles) and events that literally happened 15 hours ago. I mean, let's have at least a little continuity.

Yes, that has been very jarring.

Are we sure this is the *official* Italian broadcast? No one appears to be talking with their hands or smoking.

Most of the time, if I’m watching Tokyo 20201 I’m watching specific events of interest on the NBC Sports app rather than trying to find something appealing on regular cable TV.

Jenna Prandini, from the west coast Trump capital, Clovis CA, is the only athlete I've seen in these games with her mask worn at her chin.

I pointed it out earlier but they are assuming the people watching in primetime aren't paying attention during the day / only watch main NBC for the Olympics / avoiding spoilers and won't notice when the LIVE designation in the corner of the screen.

I've never seen such a thick 100 meter gold medalist as the Italian. I've seen muscular. But this guy looks, well, thick in the midsection.

Loved seeing new faces in the 100.

My wife probably fits the prime time TV show demographic of this. She certainly isn't alone.

She never watches sports just on her own. She'll watch sports with me but she never chooses to turn on an event. With the Olympics if she is at home, she's watching it.

I give her credit that she'll give watch the obscure stuff late at night, but during the main hours of the evening it is on the network show and it doesn't get changed.

I'm still absolutely amazed that NBC poached him from the WWL given the stories.
