Got a fridge full. Cold, light and crisp, the best macro made.

Wisconsin still has a couple of independent brewers with histories that go back to the 19th century. Stevens Point Brewery still makes their Point Special that is a macro-style adjunct lager. It's priced competitively with MGD or Bud, and IMO is a pretty good example of the type. It reminds me a little of Coors Banquet. The brewery also makes some craft-style beers that are on about a par with Leinie's (i.e., not that great).

The old Huber Brewery was bought out by the Minhas family 15 or 20 years ago. They also produce fake-craft brews that are sold at discount, like Lazy Mutt farmhouse ale and Swiss Amber. I used to see their beer in local stores but not lately. IIRC Lazy Mutt came packaged in an 8-pack.

Inbev has turned Becks and St. Pauli Girl into cheap beers, IMO. I can get a 12-pack of Beck's of St. Louis for $12.99.

I'm still pissed off that Leinie's quit marketing Sunset Wheat. Their Harvest Patch Shandy, though, fills the void 3 months out of the year.

I liked their orange Shandy but haven't seen it lately. My wife like Canoe Paddler.

I've been drinking a lot of Busch Light lately. It's got decent taste for a cheap beer.

I watched a stripper (well, she told me she was...I had my doubts) drink one of those when I was at a bar ... out of a straw. I don't think I had had one at that time, so I picked it up at the store and tried it. Blech.

Saw a crushed plastic 42-oz bottle of Steel Reserve on the ground outside a diner a few weeks ago ... what, 40 ounces of death wasn't enough?

Second the thoughts on Gansett. Fine swill. Not sure I've seen High Life Lite in the store in some time, probably not much of a loss there.

My younger brother texted me a photo of a National Boh can the other day. I lived on that stuff my last two years in college after being turned onto it by a fraternity brother from Maryland. It was cheap and drinkable, but not so drinkable that others would take it out of the refrigerator as their first choice when "borrowing" a beer at parties. I think they still brew it, but on a contract basis, not in Baltimore at a separate facility any more.

Oh yeah, I'll give a third shout out to Gansett!

I was crushing sixer tall boys last month when it was hitting 90-plus and high humidity.

Didn’t get on the Gansett train until a few years back. It’s much better than most other stuff at that price point. I’ve gone the one-nice-beer-then-cheap-beer route. Maybe two nice beers. After that you often don’t know the difference.

The two bozos who helped ruin the Orange County Register were Aaron Kushner and Eric Spitz.

Spitz was also the president of Narragansett Brewery. At a staff town hall meeting, he was asked if he could bring a truckload of his beer to the company Christmas party. He said yes, can do. But didn't.

Kushner never moved from Boston and just liked to spend other people's money. Spitz wanted to be a celebrity. He moved to Corona del Mar and tried to hob-nob on the VIP circuit with the rich and famous of CdM and Newport Beach.

But, I understand Narragansett is OK beer.
