Will COVID-19 be the needle that finally bursts the sports bubble?

County to the north of us just cancelled their tackle football season because of lack of participation.

Our county had terrible baseball numbers this spring, and just barely enough football players this fall.

My theory is last year - when the travel programs were playing and every thing run by the counties was cancelled - everyone who really wanted to play a sport found a travel team to play with. And all the "we're just out here to get 'em out of the house" families found something else to fill their time.

Anyone else seeing local sports programs not bouncing back from the Covid year off?

You should have seen it on the air. That poorly done.

I work for a rec district and our numbers are down for our first reopened sport, youth indoor soccer. Some of that may be because players and parents will have to wear masks under California rules.

The end of recreation level youth sports - not for the kids who are out to get a scholarship, but just for the average kids - will have profound effects on sports fan-dom down the road.
