You didn't win the tournament. You earn silver or bronze medals. You win gold.

 

Sport climbing. Interesting. Did this come from the X games?

Badminton was must-watch TV; really good stuff.

 

Speed climbing, yes. But the other two disciplines are much more subdued. Climbing is an easy sport to add (small venue, no outrageous infrastructure) and TV friendly.

 

They do not mean the same thing. As you can see, it says "similar" words.

You can earn something without winning. Rai Benjamin earned a silver medal by finishing second the 400 hurdles. He did not win. Karsten Warholm won the 400 hurdles -- and a gold medal.

 

I should have used the Schrute false meme.

On a more serious note, I always find it funny that the person/team that technically does better than third place is left feeling like crap whereas the one who takes bronze is celebrating simply because bronze has to win its final match but you must lose your final match to earn silver.

 

In boxing the two semi-final losers get bronze medals
