Other dude looked out of gas. He's been defending against take downs since he was probably 3, and couldn't fight off ONE in 13 seconds?

I WAS saluting Benjamin and Kerley. They ran to their potential -- that's all you can do -- but came up against someone who ran even better. Certainly no shame for them. They were both terrific in their individual events (though Kerley was part of that botched 4x100 relay handoff). I'd say they were the stars of the team.

Yes, the loss of Kendrick's was a major hit, but the U.S. still wound up with the silver medal -- which, let's be honest, was probably Kendrick's ceiling given the presence of Duplantis -- thanks to the best performance of Chris Nilsen's life.

And as I said earlier, I agree with Carl Lewis' scathing assessment of the U.S. relay "system" (it's in quotes because there doesn't really seem to be one).

Re Frerichs: YES. I HATE when big races become "tactical". You're the best runners in the world. Push the pace and let's see what you can do.

Okay I wrestled in high school a million years ago. Why didn't the guy get a point for escape?

What is the correlation between American Track and Field success and the number of Universities who have eliminated or significantly reduced or diminished their intercollegiate track and field teams?

You could maybe eke out a 5 minute segment on the pole vault. Canoe is spectacularly boring to watch and wrestling would be like using bear spray on the primetime audience.

You and be both … well I didn’t wrestle, just covered it… still, the point stands

By the way, semantic arguments are so awesome. You folks should definitely do more of it.

And I was thinking that the US team doesn't stand out so much anymore because so many of the international athletes run at American universities and train in this country.

Women’s soccer final likely going to PKs.
