Leigh Diffey last night told the story that Lamont Jacobs' dad recently contacted him - dad hadn't contacted him since Jacobs was 2 years old.
Diffey called it "a lovely family story". Jesus.

Men's 4x400 win going away. Good for Rai Benjamin and Norman. Hell, all of them. First gold for American track men.

ABC's personal Olympic vignettes were designed to pull at your heart-strings -- which sometimes worked and sometimes just were eye-rollingly sappy -- but they were Emmy worthy. And we got to learn something about athletes who were from different places and situations than ourselves.

Compare that to NBC's complete lack of preparation, with the notable exceptions of which dead relatives or career-ending injuries the featured athletes are overcoming.

NBC just bludgeons the viewers to death by hammering home whatever pre-prepared story line they've already discussed before the Games even started and refuse to budge from that assumption by offering the least little bit of negative criticism against the "home team."

A proud "sponsor" of Team USA? More like official boot-licker. Dick Ebersol ought to be burned at the stake for turning Olympic coverage into "Battle of the Network Stars."

I'm embarrassed for the professionals who had to carry NBC's jingoism for the past two weeks. I guess the paycheck's worth swallowing your words.

It is well past time that NBC revamps how they approach the Olympics, and the rise streaming makes it even more apparent

Agreed, starting with the announcers they have. Hicks-Gaines are head and shoulders above everyone else, but the track production/announcers are, as Carl Lewis would say, a clown show.

But the next Games are in six months, back in Asia, so don't expect anything to change.

My sister competed in equestrian as a teen. I've jumped out of a plane but horses, nah. Takes some guts. Big props to Jessica for competing.

Speaking from my rather limited experience playing rec league soccer and field hockey as a goalie, the more armor, the better. Projectiles hurt and girls are mean.

My first thought was they were doing a tribute to Sailor Moon. Makes sense in a weird way with them being in Japan.

    Schlage den Bastard.
