    Which is what the Dems should do, but generally lack the guts to. Run “Governor DeSantis killed my child!” ads.

    To which the GQP would respond with “well, it’s one less kid learning Critical Race Theory!”

    Can't get the Trump base without promising to stand in the way of any sort of Covid mitigation.

    The Trump base isn't enough to win elections. Chasing them is a perpetual bet on drawing an inside straight. Just because you saw some other guy fill it doesn't mean you will.

    Can't win elections. And at this point, in most places Trump-backed candidates are going to lose by landslides.

    What Trump can do is win primaries, though. The number of registered Republicans is relatively small, and of them, the idiot wing dominates the primary voting, for which turnout is usually not that great.

    So it puts that party in the position that he has an insane amount of control over the party, but his control is going to guarantee huge losses in general elections. ... with the caveat that if things get really bad economically while Democrats are in power, people will swing back and vote the other way.
