I kind of like them. The caps are different, but I can't pinpoint the difference. I think the letters are a little bigger than the current version.
It's wild to me that NYY always sells as much merchandise as they do when they never change their marks. (They never get the benefit/bump of a new secondary logo, etc.) Just goes to show you that they've invaded our culture to a disturbing degree.

No chance of that. They'll stop the rotation before certain teams get the opportunity.

Kind of shows the value of building a brand. Nowadays, I literally have to look at the score bug to figure out who is playing an NBA game because their uniforms, including the base color schemes, are different night to night, season to season.

That's the part that gets me: color changes.
The Bucks and Raptors and others have undergone complete re-brands over the years.

It'll lose its unique quality and become a cliche fast if they do a full "FOD" production every year.

The font and placement of "New York" on the front of their jerseys is slightly different, a bit skinnier, and the same with the numbers. It's hard to tell at a glance, but if you compare older Yankees uniforms with newer ones you can see the subtle differences over time even if the basic design hasn't changed in 100+ years.

I think they should stick with these that they're wearing tonight.
I've always wondered if they were bland in the 1910s because the team sucked and then decided to remain bland after Ruth et al made them perpetual champions because their success meant they didn't need gimmickry.

I think, early on, people just didn't give a thought to uniforms the way we do today. If you look at baseball uniforms from the first half of the 20th century, especially, they're all pretty basic -- home whites and road grays, with the team name, city or letter on the front. Teams didn't start to make radical changes until the 1970s (the powder blue craze) and by then I guess the Yankees didn't feel the need to do anything different. IIRC, Steinbrenner was also big on Yankees tradition and probably didn't want to change anything.

Tradition doesn't stop the NYY from wearing extra caps for Veterans Day, Breast Cancer, etc etc.

I'll point out that Munson wore red shinguards.

Looking back through some old uniforms while talking about this, I came across these 1921 Indians uniforms. Kind of badass, as long as you don't start the season 20-40.

In other Field of Dreams news, family friend Frank Schwindel is up with the Cubs, his fourth ML team, playing first. Had a double and HR today.
